Today is officially Cinnamon Bun Day!
Kanelbuller, as they are known in their native Sweden, are rolls of sweetened yeast risen dough, coiled up with a luscious mixture of cinnamon, sugar and butter!
Every family is likely to have their own unique recipe, handed down from grandmother to mother to daughter. Some may insist on the ‘true’ version containing cardamom in the dough, whilst some may insist on no such thing. Some are bedecked in nibbed sugar, some simply glazed or even iced.
Versions of such traditional buns exist across Europe, akin to our Hot Cross Buns and Chelsea Buns. No matter what their guise such a pillowy light treat is hard to resist, especially when fresh and warm from the oven. That’s why we will be serving our own Cinnamon Buns fresh from the Madeleine Express wherever we pop up in October; and yes our version does contain cardamom in the dough and is topped with a sticky sweet caramelised cinnamon glaze.
Hail the Express and grab yourself a bun at Kirkstall Deli Market on Saturday 26th October and at World Feast on Briggate in Leeds on Sunday 27th October.
